Research Area

MRI of navicular disease, identifying early changes associated with the degeneration of the navicular apparatus of the horse, including the deep digital flexor tendon in the foot.

MRI of proximal suspensory desmitis, identifying early changes associated with the degeneration of the attachment of the suspensory ligament. Identification of these changes may help in understanding the mechanics of this injury and in finding appropriate ways of prevention and treatment of this condition.

Understanding mechanisms of regional analgesia (with Drs. John and Jim Schumacher), improved understanding of regional analgesia patterns will facilitate a more accurate diagnosis.

Repair of tendon injuries with autologous mesenchymal stem cells (with Professor Roger Smith), stem-cell assisted repair may offer hope for tendon re-growth as opposed to replacement of damaged tissue with fibrous scar tissue of inferior quality.
