Theriogenology
The Theriogenology faculty concentrate on equine and small animal reproduction. Two faculty members, Drs. Mike Whitacre and Carlos Pinto, are primarily involved in clinical service in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital for equine and small animal clients. Two other Theriogenologists, Drs. Peter Farin and Jim Floyd, primarily work in the Ruminant Health Management group on reproduction and production of cattle.
Teaching occurs in clinical rotations for senior students along with a course in Theriogenology during Year 3 of the DVM curriculum. Instruction also occurs at the Teaching Animal Unit (TAU). Electives and selectives are offered depending on student interest.
Research activites of the faculty focus on equine oocyte activation and immunocontraception. The Theriogenology faculty also participate in an Equine Reproduction Program, which includes interdisciplinary cooperation with faculty of the Department of Clinical Sciences (DoCs).
