4 Honored with 2021 CVM Awards for Excellence
Four employees at the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine have been selected to receive the 2021 Award for Excellence, the highest honor given to non-faculty, recognizing exceptional service during the past challenging year.
Twenty-two CVM and NC State Veterinary Hospital nominees were submitted for consideration by their colleagues. Award winners will receive eight hours of paid time off and $250. They are now candidates for the NC State University-wide Awards for Excellence. If honored there, they become eligible for the Governor’s Award for Excellence.
The following is a list of the four award winners and 18 other nominees.
2021 CVM Award for Excellence Winners
Brandon Moore, nominated in the Spirit of North Carolina category. Moore is the assistant director of materials management for the hospital. He is recognized for going above and beyond to make certain that the veterinary hospital had needed supplies and materials for patients, as well as critical personal protection equipment to protect staff and students during the pandemic.
Andrea Murr, nominated in the Efficiency and Innovation category. Murr is a medical support technician in the college’s lab animal resources unit. Through her innovative suggestions and actions, she is credited with improving the efficiency of surgeries and other improvements to achieve better patient care and research results.
Kaitlyn Runion, nominated in the Human Relations category. Runion is the student engagement and academic success coordinator at the CVM. Runion is recognized as an advocate for diversity and inclusion within the CVM community, including serving on a committee that developed opportunities for community members to talk about their feelings and open themselves to learning others’ perspectives.
Anthony Simmons, nominated in the Public Service category. Simmons is an accounting technician in the college’s Department of Population Health and Pathobiology. His recognition is for a public service volunteer project he participates in yearly, joining a mission group in Kenya. He visits slums, delivering food and toiletries to people living in poverty. He also meets with young people, talking about the importance of education, providing mentorship and friendship.
These recipients will also be honored at the NC State University Awards for Excellence ceremony at a later date that has yet to be determined.
