Callie Pierce, Class of 2016 at the NC State University College of Veterinary Medicine, is the recipient of a national Poultry Scholars Award from the American Association of Avian Pathologists Foundation.

The competitive scholarship of $1,000 is presented to students based on academic achievement, faculty recommendation, experience related to poultry health and well-being or poultry food safety, and an essay describing career goals.

The AAAP Foundation, the charitable arm of the American Association of Avian Pathologists, formed the scholarship program in 2012 to support students enrolled in a curriculum involving veterinary medicine, avian science, poultry science, food science, animal science, or biology who intend to pursue a master’s doctorate, or veterinary degree with a focus on poultry health and well-being and/or food safety.

The American Association of Avian Pathologists was founded in 1957 to promote scientific knowledge to enhance the health, well-being, and productivity of poultry to provide safe and abundant food for the world.
