Shanna Rayburn

Medical Support Tech - Shift

Shanna Rayburn graduated from Purdue University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Veterinary Technology. After graduation she worked in the Purdue Veterinary Teaching Hospital as a rotating technician in the many different areas of the hospital. In January 2013, she joined a specialty hospital in the Chicago area working with a board certified veterinary behaviorist. There, she was able to work closely with clients and staff, implementing changes to improve the human animal bond and decrease the stress of the hospital environment. While there, she obtained her Veterinary Technician Specialty in Animal Behavior in August of 2016.
She has experience working with different types of behavioral problems and disorders in dogs and cats. This includes implementing individualized behavior modification plans as well as teaching owners to apply these techniques at home.
Shanna is also a graduate of the Karen Pryor Academy, a training organization that is solely positive reinforcement based. She is also a Certified Fear Free Professional.
Shanna has lectured and led hands-on workshops nationally, with topics including recognizing the fearful dog or cat, humane and lower stress handling for veterinary staff, and implementing safe and humane protocols for shelter workers.
She looks forward to helping patients and their owners here at NC State.
