2022 ESCRA Virtual Conference

“Cancer Across Species – Improving Cancer Care for All” is a virtual conference hosted by the Exotic Species Cancer Research Alliance (ESCRA) and Arizona Cancer Evolution Center, and the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. The goal of this conference is to bring together leaders in zoo, exotic, and small animal health and husbandry with leaders in human medicine to find common ground and improve cancer care and research across the tree of life.

This year’s main topics will include:

  • Comparison of cancer across species
  • New treatments in cancer therapies utilizing a clinical and translational approach
  • How use of data can help increase our knowledge of cancer and inform new strategies to combat it

This year’s speakers will include:

  • Joshua Schiffman, MD – Professor of Pediatrics, University of Utah; Adjunct Professor, Department of Oncological Sciences | Lisa Abegglen, PhD – Assistant Professor, Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, Department of Pediatrics, University of Utah – Keynote Address: “Translational Approaches to Mimic Cancer Defense Across Species”
  • Joanne Intile, DVM, DACVIM – Associate Professor, Medical Oncology, NC State College of Veterinary Medicine – Session Title: “Health Literacy and Readability: Finding the right words to promote better veterinary health”
  • Patrick Martin, PhD – Associate Professor of Biology, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University – Session Title: “Examining the Chemotherapeutic Potential of Rosehip (Rosa canina) Extracts in Glioblastoma and Triple Negative Breast Cancer”
  • Jennifer Graham, DVM, DABVP – Graham Veterinary Consulting, LLC – Session Title: “Management of Common Zoological Companion Animal Tumors”
  • Heather Gardner, DVM, PhD, DACVIM (Oncology) – Assistant Research Professor, Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University – Session Title: “The Landscape of Canine Cancer Genomics: Ongoing Challenges and Emerging Opportunities”
  • Carlo Maley, PhD – Associate Professor, Biodesign Institute, School of Life Sciences, Arizona State University – Session Title: “Cancer Across Primates”

The registration fee for this virtual event is $50 and includes 3.5 hours of AAVSB RACE approved CE credits for veterinarians and veterinary technicians.
