CVM Annual Research Forum and Litwack Lecture

The Annual CVM Research Forum sponsored by the Faculty Committee on Research is scheduled for Friday, September 18, 2015, at the CVM and will be followed by an awards ceremony.

The forum includes the Litwack Lecture; given annually in honor of the late Dr. Martin Litwack, who was a Raleigh veterinarian and an early advocate of the College of Veterinary MedicineThis year’s lecture will be presented by Dr. John Robin Warren AC, an Australian pathologist, Nobel Laureate and researcher who is credited with the 1979 re-discovery of the bacterium Helicobacter pylori, together with Barry Marshall.

The Research Forum will include two levels of participation:

  • a poster session, open to DVM students, graduate students, house officers and staff
  • oral presentations by DVM students, graduate students/house officers and staff

CVM faculty will judge each category. Prizes for oral and poster categories will be awarded: The top 2 posters, oral presentations will receive an Award of Excellence – $150 each. The next 2 posters and oral presentations will receive the Certificate of Achievement – $75 each.

The abstract deadline is 5:00 pm, July 24, 2015 . Each participant has the option of requesting either an oral or poster presentation. The Faculty Committee on Research will determine which abstracts will be accepted for oral presentations. Abstracts must be submitted via email to the Continuing Education Office at ceregistration@ncsu.edu  and should indicate the preference for oral or poster presentation.

The poster presentations will be on display all day at the Research Forum. Poster presentations must be set up by 5:00pm on Thursday, September 17th. Oral presentations will be limited to 10 minutes (eight minutes for presentation and two minutes for questions). Presentations will be strictly timed to ensure that all are completed in a reasonable time frame.

All CVM faculty are asked to attend and encourage their DVM students, graduate students and house officers to present at the Research Forum.

Nobel Prize Winner Dr. John Robin Warren

This year’s Litwack Lecturer is Nobel Prize winner Dr. John Robin Warren. Warren won the 2005 Prize in Physiology for Medicine, which was was awarded jointly to Dr Warren and Barry J. Marshall  “for their discovery of the bacterium Helicobacter pylori and its role in gastritis and peptic ulcer disease
