For more than 40 years, NC State’s College of Veterinary Medicine has provided animals of all kinds with life-changing — and life-saving — medical care through the NC State Veterinary Hospital.

Now, in alignment with our new college strategic plan, we are embarking on a new era of innovative patient-centered care by expanding our large animal hospital. With $70 million from the North Carolina General Assembly allocated to the upgrades and an additional $25 million commitment from the Randall B. Terry Jr. Foundation, progress is already underway in making our vision a reality, and you are invited to be part of this exciting project. Together, we will work to elevate our exceptional comprehensive care for horses, cattle, farm animals and small ruminants via state-of-the-art facilities, specialized equipment and, as always, the talent of our world-class veterinarians.

The groundbreaking research being conducted right here on our campus enables our veterinary teams to put cutting-edge medical techniques into practice as quickly as possible to provide our patients with life-saving clinical care. This access to comprehensive medical and surgical care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year has drawn clients from all across North Carolina and beyond looking for world-class, holistic treatment. 

Best of all, we are training future veterinary healers who will address shortages in veterinarians working with horses and farm animals. Through hands-on, real-world experience, their education at our veterinary hospital will benefit them and their patients for many years to come. The Excellence We Already Offer

Our equine program is powered by an exceptional team of faculty who provide state-of-the-art clinical care and teaching and perform ground-breaking translational research. Our faculty are second to none, leading the world in areas like colic surgery, stem-cell therapy, and ophthalmology. We have one of the largest teaching hospital caseloads in the United States, and we partner with local practitioners to provide outstanding DVM education, training the next generation of healers.

We also specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of medical, reproductive and surgical disorders in farm animals (ruminants and pseudo-ruminants).  Our board-certified farm animal internal medicine specialists and surgeons, experienced residents, dedicated veterinarian technicians and our supervised students all work together to provide the best available routine and emergency care, diagnostic procedures and hospitalization experience for your animal.

The NC State’s Farm Animal Veterinary Service assists with any health crisis that may arise with your animal. Our services are supported by advanced diagnostic laboratories (clinical pathology, microbiology, virology, parasitology), that allow for rapid test results, and up-to-date diagnostic imaging services including: ultrasound, endoscopy, high resolution radiography, fluoroscopy, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging.
