Upcoming Postdoc Opportunities
Two closely collaborating laboratories are expanding, and seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate. The Nolan Lab studies both: (1) mechanisms of cancer treatment induced pain, and (2) crosstalk between pain signaling pathways and cancer behavior. The Mishra Lab studies the neurobiology of itch and pain, using cutting-edge molecular biology techniques, and advanced animal models.
The scholar will work with other lab members to lead NIH-funded research projects, studying mechanisms of pain and itch. The projects involve benchtop cell culture experiments, studies using genetically engineered mouse models, behavioral testing, and potential involvement in co-clinical trials in both humans and dogs with cancer.
Applicants should possess a recent PhD (or equivalent doctorate such as MD or DVM) in molecular biology, cancer biology, or neurobiology. Candidates should also demonstrate ability to work well within a team environment as well as independently. Successful candidates will have very strong communication and analytical skills. Two Post-Doc positions available in antimicrobial resistance and infectious disease modeling:
Position 1
Goals: A postdoctoral research scholar position on infectious disease modeling is immediately available at Dr. Lanzas lab (North Carolina State University). The successful candidate will join a 5-year CDC-funded project in the area of infectious disease modeling of health-care associated infections with an interdisciplinary group of researchers with expertise in infectious disease modeling, hospital epidemiology and clinics, applied mathematics, and genomics from North Carolina State University, Washington University School of Medicine, and University of Tennessee. The project involves the development of multi-scale models for the transmission and phylodynamics of multidrug resistant pathogens, as well as modeling impacts of COVID-19 on healthcare settings and resources.
Necessary Education, Experience Skills, Training and Education: The postdoctoral associate shall have a Ph.D. degree in a relevant quantitative discipline (ecology, epidemiology, engineering, applied mathematics, statistics and related fields) and have a deep interest in interdisciplinary collaboration, strong quantitative and programming skills, and good oral and writing skills are expected.

Position 2
Goals: A postdoctoral research scholar position on antimicrobial resistance modeling is immediately available at Dr. Lanzas lab (North Carolina State University). The successful candidate will join one of the several NIH and CDC-funded projects in the area of infectious disease epidemiology and modeling of antimicrobial resistance. The projects involve the development of probabilistic graphical models to integrate antimicrobial resistance genotypic, phenotypic and exposure data, the development of agent-based models of multidrug resistant pathogens to test interventions that minimize the evolution and spread of resistance in health-care settings, and the application machine-learning approaches to routinely-collected data on antimicrobial resistance, including electronic records, clinical diagnostic and surveillance data in support of antibiotic stewardship.

Technician Position
Contribute and assist with clinical research in the field of pain. The employee should understand the rationale for the research and perform related research and clinical skills to allow research hypotheses to be tested in a scientifically rigorous manner. This position deals with collection and analysis of kinetic data, tissue collection and processing, constructing and monitoring compliance with IACUCs and assistance with clinical trial recruitment, screening, data entry and patient care.
