Rottweiler LOXHD1 Deafness

A genetic mutation associated with nonsyndromic deafness and hearing loss in Rottweilers has been identified by the Lohi Lab at the University of Helsinki. This mutation is in the gene LOXHD1, which has also been implicated in human hearing disorders. The mutation is thought to be inherited as a recessive trait and careful breeding practices can be used to remove the prevalence of this disease.
