Enrolling Dogs With Stifle or Hip Osteoarthritis on a Study Involving LIBRELA

Description

Translational Research in Pain team is seeking dogs with osteoarthritis to take part in a
study aiming to compare the efficacy of two FDA-approved medications. We will do this
using computerized analysis of gait. Enrolled dogs will all receive one of the FDA
approved drugs. (Half of the dogs will receive newly FDA-approved medication, Librela)

Eligibility

To be eligible for the study, your dog must meet the following requirements:

• Weight ≥ 20 kgs
• Is ≥ 1 year of age
• Limping in at least one of the back legs due to osteoarthritis in knee and/or hip
joints
• Stop the administration of non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs, e.g.
‘Rimadyl’) for 7 consecutive days prior to the screening visit
• Be healthy enough to receive sedation for x-rays

Testing Requirements

• Owners will be required to come to NCSU with their dog for a total of 6 study
visits over the course of 2.5 months
• Give daily oral medication
