North Carolina Veterinary Medical Foundation

Developing resources that advance the well-being of animals by promoting educational activities, results-focused research, and a renowned faculty

For the Love of Animals

Created in 1978 to attract funding for the College’s teaching, learning, research and extension in the field of veterinary medicine, the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Foundation, Inc. operates exclusively for educational and scientific purposes. By providing financial assistance that helps promote educational activities and maintain a prominent faculty, the Foundation encourages diverse research and facilitates cooperative activities with other disciplines and institutions.

All Foundation activities are overseen by a volunteer board of directors representing professional, business and civic leaders from communities across the state. Board members serve as advocates for the College and for the University.

The Foundation is ever mindful of maximizing giving power through special programs that bring together donors of similar interests and has been critical in securing financial assistance for the College that allows for faculty support and development, research funds, student scholarships and program enhancement.

Randall B. Terry, Jr.’s Far-Reaching Gift to NC State Veterinary Medicine

Former Foundation President Randall Terry’s love of golden retrievers, his gratefulness for the lifesaving care one of his beloved Nike received at the NC State Veterinary Hospital and his passion for the betterment of veterinary medicine led him, not only to become involved on the Foundation’s Board – rising to become president – but to chair a campaign that raised $10 million for the College and to pledge $20 million of his own dollars to the construction of the Randall B. Terry, Jr. Companion Animal Veterinary Medical Center, which opened in 2011. His charitable foundation has since gifted a further $16 million in support of student, faculty, and research endowments. The R.B. Terry Charitable Foundation is also matching gifts made by other donors.

More than twice the size of NC State’s original veterinary teaching hospital, the Terry Center is among the most advanced of its kind in the country. It realizes Terry’s vision of an outstanding environment where talented faculty and students can work at the forefront of veterinary medicine. And it combines with the college’s other extensive referral and emergency services to provide care for all those who need it.  Learn more about Terry’s lasting legacy
