Office of the Dean

Kathryn Meurs currently serves as Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine.

Welcome

It’s a real pleasure to welcome you to the College of Veterinary Medicine at North Carolina State University. We strive to offer the very best in education, to our veterinary students in the classroom and clinics, and to our graduate students in laboratory and field experiences.

Our hospital and clinics are recognized for their state of the art diagnosis and treatment, with a strong focus on compassionate delivery of care to all our patients and owners. Our research enterprise is first rate, with outstanding researchers providing leadership and innovation in key disciplines that can make a real difference for both animal and human health, and for the environment. In service and engagement our impact extends from serving our local and regional veterinary clients, to national and global projects that serve all communities in the true spirit of a land grant university.

At North Carolina State University we are very fortunate as a College to be a critical part of the Centennial Biomedical Campus at a time of translational change in our university that will lead to huge developments in the life sciences. Veterinary medicine is a foundation stone in the one medicine model that provides society’s best prospect for improving the health of animals, people and our environment through translational research. All of us at the College of Veterinary Medicine look forward to enthusiastically playing a leadership role in this endeavor.

On behalf of all my colleagues and the students at the College of Veterinary Medicine I want to thank all of our supporters for their partnership in our mission, from the pet owners who visit our clinics, to our agricultural industry partners and beyond. Above all, we want to express our deep gratitude to the visionary and generous donors whose ambition for this program matches our own in every way. I’d like to encourage all our visitors to explore what we have to offer – please don’t hesitate to contact us with your questions.

Strategic Planning

The NC State College of Veterinary Medicine Strategic Plan was created by our whole community. It understands the lessons of the past, and looks to the future and the changing world in which we live. The plan was originally developed to span 2016 to 2020. Because of the pandemic, the current strategic plan has been extended to 2022.

The plan is written around five goals, designed to work together to achieve our mission of improving animal and human health. Each goal has specific objectives that we’re working to accomplish by 2022.

Our Goals

Strategic Plan
  1. Build an inclusive College community and a culture of pride and integrity.
  2. Deliver world-class education that produces highly successful veterinarians.
  3. Build research leadership and training in animal and human health.
  4. Deliver compassionate, state-of-the-art care in a dynamic educational environment.
  5. Strategically invest in targeted programmatic areas.
