NC State Community Access Program

Providing veterinary services to those in need

Pets need regular medical care to remain healthy and enjoy long lives, but many things can hinder pet owners from being able to access veterinary care. Barriers may include financial constraints or geographical and logistical challenges.

The Community Access Program at NC State’s College of Veterinary Medicine aims to offer vital veterinary care to individuals throughout North Carolina who might otherwise struggle to take their pets to a veterinarian.

We Bring the Clinic to You

Our mobile unit travels to communities throughout North Carolina and offers walk-in clinics to residents in need of medical care for their pets.

> Strengthening the human-animal bond. You and your pet will be treated with kindness and respect. Our experienced staff practices low-stress handling techniques to ensure your pet has the best experience.

> Pay only what you are able. Our program is entirely funded through the generosity of sponsors, philanthropic efforts and donations. There is a suggested fee of $10 per pet but no formal charge for services.

What the Community Access Program offers

Limitations

Due to the mobile nature of our program as well as space and staffing constrictions, we are unable to provide the following services:

> Emergencies or hospitalization*
> Management of chronic illnesses
> Walk-in surgical procedures requiring full anesthesia
> Taking possession of stray or surrendered animals*
> Treatment of wildlife*

We strive to offer essential medical care to as many pets as possible, but safety is our top priority. We will gladly and patiently work with anxious pets, but we cannot accommodate animals displaying dangerous behavior that cannot be safely handled with humane methods. For these patients, we will gladly discuss alternative strategies for ensuring they receive the care they need.
