Now Enrolling Canine Patients with Liver Tumors

Does your dog have a liver tumor? We are now enrolling canine patients that have a liver tumor into a clinical trial that is using a new therapy called INSPIRE, which uses electrical pulses to safely destroy the cells within a tumor.

This study has two treatment groups.

One group of study applicants that have 1-2 liver tumor measuring between 1-8cm will be screened through the Medical Oncology service at NC State Veterinary hospital for eligibility. If eligible, patients in this group will return 1-2 weeks later for a one time INSPIRE therapy treatment. This will be followed by surgery a week later to remove the tumor and part of the liver.

The second group of study applicants should have 1-2 liver tumor measuring between 1-8cm. Potential candidates will come in through the Medical Oncology service at NC State Veterinary Hospital for a screening appointment to check eligibility for enrollment. If eligible, patients will return up to 3 times at 3-week intervals for a CT scan and INSPIRE therapy treatment. Once patients have received their last INSPIRE therapy treatment, they will be monitored over a 9 month period which include 5 recheck appointments which include a CT scan and bloodwork.

Testing Requirements

Patients should have a cytological diagnosis of the liver tumor prior to their screening appointment.

Inclusion Criteria

Patients have 1-2 liver tumors measuring between 1-8cm

Patients must weigh at least 30lbs

Patients must be overall healthy with no other major health concerns

Exclusion Criteria

Metastasis of the liver tumor or any other forms of cancer

Major heart disease or heart arrhythmia’s
