Troy Ghashghaei
Bio
Troy Ghashghaei, originally from Iran, embarked on a new chapter in the United States in the early 1980s. He earned his Ph.D. from Boston University, followed by postdoctoral research at UNC-Chapel Hill, before joining the College of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. Since 2010, his laboratory has received ongoing funding from the NIH.
The Ghashghaei Lab is dedicated to unraveling the fundamental molecular, cellular, and physiological mechanisms of neurogenesis and gliogenesis in the embryonic, early postnatal, and adult forebrain. Currently, the lab is exploring perinatal developmental events with unprecedented cellular and molecular precision. Utilizing advanced mouse genetics, they investigate the roles of domain-specific progenitors and the destinies of their progeny during the critical period of forebrain development.
Dr. Ghashghaei has mentored numerous undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral fellows, all of whom have secured esteemed positions in academia and industry. He teaches neurophysiology within the DVM curriculum and has welcomed several DVM scholars to engage in research, fostering the next generation of scientists.
