Bio

Dr. Javier Benito has served as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesia and Analgesia at the College of Veterinary Medicine, North Carolina State University since September 2025. Previously, from 2017 to 2025, he was a teaching clinician in anesthesia and analgesia at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Université de Montréal, where he also coordinated the Small Animal Anesthesiology Service from 2019 to June 2024.

He earned his veterinary degree from the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM, 2004), followed by a European residency and MSc in Laboratory Animal Medicine and Animal Welfare Sciences at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB, 2009), and a PhD in anesthesia from the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM, 2016). His training also includes a postgraduate fellowship at the Comparative Pain Research Laboratory (CPRL) – North Carolina State University (NCSU, 2009–2012) and an American residency in anesthesia, culminating in a Diplome d’études spécialisées (DES) from Université de Montréal (UdeM, 2017). Dr. Benito has been a Certified Specialist in Small Animal Anesthesia in Spain since 2014 (GTA anesthesia, AVEPA) and has authored peer-reviewed publications and book chapters in anesthesia, analgesia, and mechanical ventilation.
