Sterling Wright is a bioinformatician and microbiome researcher interested in understanding how environmental, cultural, and biological factors intersect to shape human health. He earned his PhD from Pennsylvania State University, where his research focused on the human oral microbiome and its relationship to health across diverse populations and time periods. He subsequently completed postdoctoral research at Arizona State University, where he studied the developing infant gut microbiome and its relationships with early-life factors.

His research integrates bioinformatics, microbiology, and biological anthropology to investigate how human environments and lifestyles influence the microbiome. He specializes in the analysis of complex multi-omic and longitudinal datasets, using computational approaches to identify microbial patterns and their associations with human health. Through this work, he aims to better understand the dynamic relationships among the microbiome, human biology, and the environments in which people live.
