Mentored research provides students with a rich learning experience, deepening their understanding of the scientific process and responsible conduct of research. This experience helps them enhance their written and oral communication skills while also offering insight into potential career paths.
In October each year, the Office of the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies holds information sessions for faculty mentors and DVM students interested in summer research training. These sessions detail our highly interconnected Veterinary Scholars Program (VSP) and T35 Interdisciplinary Biomedical Research Training Program (IBRTP), which are the primary funded research opportunities available at NC State’s College of Veterinary Medicine, as well as other opportunities.
Our Summer Research Internship Programs are co-sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim, National Institutes of Health Office of Research Infrastructure Programs (NIH ORIP), the Herbert Benjamin Professorship Endowment, the Fluoroscience Distinguished Professorship Endowment, the Office of the Associate Dean for Research, and many individual faculty members.
