Simulated Clients
Using simulated clients gives students a realistic safe space to practice and develop their communication skills. We invite simulated clients from a variety of backgrounds to participate in our communication labs each year.
The majority of our simulated clients are trained and experienced in playing standardized patients within the field of human medicine. We prioritize realistic veterinary client portrays and providing effective feedback to students.
After completing the communications curriculum, which will include four separate lab experiences, our students become competent communicators across various situations from routine wellness exams to end of life discussions.
We are always recruiting for new simulated clients! If you’re interested in participating in our program, please download and complete our Simulated Client Interest form. Once completed, email the form along with any questions you may have to our simulated client coordinator, Stan Pafford, slpaffor@ncsu.edu. We do not have a formal interview process. Interested individuals will be contacted to confirm their submission and will have the opportunity to discuss our program specifics.
