Lisa Gamsjaeger

Bio

Dr. Lisa Gamsjäger was born and raised in Austria, where she also received her veterinary degree from the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna. Following graduation, she completed a farm animal internship at the University College Dublin, Ireland, and a residency in Large Animal Internal Medicine with Livestock Emphasis at the University of California, Davis. After becoming board certified through the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 2018, Dr. Gamsjäger pursued a PhD at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Calgary, Canada. There, she investigated strategies to optimize passive immunity in beef calves. These included practical diagnostic tests for the assessment of colostral and calf serum antibody concentrations on-farm, as well as different beef-calf specific colostrum intervention strategies. Dr. Gamsjäger then worked as a clinical instructor at the clinic for ruminant medicine and surgery at the Vetsuisse Faculty, University of Zurich, before starting her position as an Assistant Professor of Ruminant Medicine at the NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine in 2023.

Dr. Gamsjäger’s main research interest and focus is pre-weaning ruminant health, particularly transfer of passive immunity, neonatal vaccine strategies and alternative approaches to decrease antimicrobial drug use in neonatal ruminants.
