Overview
We provide laboratory results for the diagnosis and treatment of disease in animals at the NC State Veterinary Hospital and with local veterinarians. We are comprised of 7 laboratory services: Chemistry, Coagulation, Cytology, Hematology, Immunology, Immunohematology, Special Chemistry, and Urinalysis.
Laboratory personnel maintain point of care laboratories in the large and small animal areas of our hospital. These point of care laboratories are available for after hours use by non-laboratory technical staff, residents, interns, and students. We work closely with referring veterinarians to provide excellent diagnostic services while providing an enriched learning experience for our veterinary students.
Since we began in 1984, our services have expanded to include a large variety of tests with approximately 600 orderable tests and 80 test profiles. Clinical Pathology serves as a central receiving area for non-infectious “send-out” tests, i.e. necessary tests unavailable at the College or Hospital that must be mailed or delivered to reference labs within or outside the College.
