Clinical Nutrition

Students and interns in this section explore how proper nutrition can promote health, fight disease and support patient management. They learn how to:

  • Develop nutrition support plans for hospitalized and ‘at home’ patients.
  • Prepare critical care nutrition support plans including the implementation of assisted feeding techniques.
  • Evaluate and formulate homemade nutrition (service not available from June 15 to July 30)

Additionally, students receive associated training in such small animal specialties as medicine, surgery, emergency critical care, dermatology, and oncology.

Faculty in this section are practicing veterinarians who consult with referring veterinarians and with hospital clinicians on the nutritional requirements of patients. They also conduct research on the nutritional causes of obesity and cancer in animals.
